Live from TEDx: What Legacy Really Looks Like

Sugar Hill, GA — Kenneth Lockett Foundation co-founder Daniel Varitek recently took the TEDx stage to share a deeply personal story about friendship, loss, and what it truly means to leave a legacy.

At the center of the talk is Kenneth Henry Lockett III — a student journalist, advocate, and friend — whose life and influence reshaped Varitek’s understanding of impact. What began as an exploration of legacy through public figures and monuments ultimately became something far more intimate and urgent.

The talk challenges a common assumption: that legacy is something large, visible, and permanent. Instead, Varitek argues that real legacy is often small, catalytic, and set in motion long before anyone notices it.

Rather than being defined by statues, titles, or scale, legacy lives in the relationships we shape and the trajectories we alter—often one person at a time.

This belief directly informs the work of the Kenneth Lockett Foundation, which invests in emerging leaders through programs like the K.H. Lockett Truth and Justice Fellowship — designed to create the kind of formative, catalytic experiences that can change the course of a life.
